Art in Ellicott City is a private foundation that was created in 2017 to further the creation and installation of public art.
Art is an expression of the human experience in all its many facets. It can delight and inspire, or it can unsettle and terrify. Art is a form of story telling — about our time, our place, our values, and our assumptions. It can teach, inform, and uplift. And it can entertain and edify.
Public art is art in public spaces. It comes in many shapes and sizes: an historic bronze statute; an ephemeral light show; a mural, large or small; a piece of landscape architecture; a traveling display; an iconic sculpture; or a festival.
A community blessed with public art is a community engaged in the hard work of human culture.
